Department of Electronics in LCB College was established in 1995. It was started to offer Electronics as a general subject in B.Sc course under Gauhati University. The first batch of students with Electronics as a general subject passed from this department in 1997-98 session. In early 2001, the department shifted to present location which was provided with a new classroom and two sufficiently equipped laboratories so as to handle students of both major and general courses. In the same year, Gauhati University formally approved to start major course in Electronics and the department started the course with strength of 12 students. The first batch of students with Electronics as major subject passed out in 2004. In 2011, the Electronics major and general courses under Gauhati University were restructured in to Semester System from Annual System. Again in 2019, G.U. introduced CBCS pattern under the semester system.
It is the only department which offers both Honours and Regular courses in Electronics under Gauhati University. The department has two well equipped laboratories with modern electronic instruments and computing facilities. All the faculty members of the department are highly qualified with Ph.D./NET. A number of research papers have been published by faculty members in peer reviewed journals and international conference proceedings. The department has produced a number of highly qualified well established alumni who have good contact with the parent department. The mission of the department is to produce skilled manpower in Electronics and related areas. The vision of the department is to make the department as one of the finest department in Assam for Teaching Learning in Electronics.
At present, the department has two classrooms, two modern well equipped laboratories and broadband internet facility. There is a LCD projector to provide ICT facilities to conduct classes and seminars .The department also has a departmental library which is a part of the central library of the college with a collection of 86 books to meet the needs of the students and teachers.
