The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Lalit Chandra Bharali College (LCB College), Guwahati, is an active student-volunteer unit dedicated to service, social responsibility, leadership, and community development. It provides students with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom while contributing meaningfully to society. The unit follows the NSS motto “Not Me But You”, encouraging students to put community welfare and social responsibility alongside their individual interests. Through various activities, volunteers develop important qualities such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, communication, empathy, and problem-solving. The NSS Unit regularly conducts and participates in programmes related to cleanliness, environmental awareness, tree plantation, health awareness, community outreach, youth development, disaster preparedness, cultural activities, and social awareness. Special camps and community-based programmes give volunteers an opportunity to interact directly with communities and understand their needs and challenges. The unit also provides a platform for students to explore their individual skills. Volunteers contribute in areas such as event management, IT, content creation, designing, photography, video editing, documentation, communication, and coordination. This allows students to learn practical skills while working as a team. NSS also focuses on leadership and youth development. Volunteers are encouraged to take initiative, coordinate programmes, manage responsibilities, and work together to achieve common goals. Participation in institutional, state, and national-level programmes further provides students with valuable exposure and learning experiences. Environmental responsibility is another important part of NSS activities. Through cleanliness drives, plantation programmes, and awareness campaigns, volunteers are encouraged to develop sustainable habits and inspire others to care for their surroundings. The unit also promotes awareness about disaster preparedness, civil defence, emergency response, and community support, helping volunteers understand the importance of being prepared and responsible during challenging situations. The NSS Unit of LCB College aims to create socially aware and responsible young citizens who are willing to serve their communities. It is more than just a college activity—it is a platform where students serve, learn, lead, and grow together. With the continued support of the college, Programme Officers, and dedicated volunteers, the NSS Unit looks forward to creating greater community impact and providing students with more opportunities to contribute to society.
