Department of Philosophy, L. C. B. College

The department of Philosophy was established in 1992-93 session. Initially Logic was introduced in the Higher Secondary Section. In 1994 the subject was introduced in Degree Classes, both in Major and General Course, parallel to the Higher Secondary classes.
Presently, the department is offering only Regular Course in U.G. Classes. From 2011 onwards, the Course was converted into semester system from annual system, then again into CBCS system, as per Guwahati University regulation from 2019.
The department is functioning with one sanctioned post teacher. Qualified teachers are engaged on contractual basis to meet the demands of the students during peak season. The existing faculty has published research article, presented papers in both national and international seminars and has also translated course materials of K. K. Handique Open University.
The Department takes care of the students by taking need based tutorial classes, lending books from the departmental library, giving previous years’ question papers, and providing mentoring sessions.
The overall success rate of passing of the students is satisfactory. The department undertakes various activities for the development of the students’ viz. Educational Tour, field trips, etc.
The Department is planning to offer add – on certificate course on ‘yoga’ from this forthcoming session that is 2022 – 23. After passing out, a student with Philosophy as a regular subject can opt for higher education or can be absorbed in any other way that an average graduate can do, including start ups.
